From Gaelic To Japanese

The Tilted Kilt, a bar and eatery on Ambassador Caffery Parkway has closed, and a high-end Japanese sushi and hibachi restaurant will soon occupy that location.

According to Kristin Cronhardt, vice president of marketing at the Tilted Kilt’s headquarters in Tempe, Ariz., Rick Pastorek, the franchisee of the establishment, did well for several months after the eatery opened in the Ambassador Row Shopping Center in October 2009. But business slumped in the wake of the BP blowout in April 2010. As oil spewed into the Gulf of Mexico for four months and drilling came to a standstill until late February, business at the Tilted Kilt suffered, too.

The local Tilted Kilt counted on oilfield service workers as its customer base. Business did not rebound after the spill, she said.
