Healthy Options Not The Pick Of The Menu At Fast Food Franchises

Franchising.net.au:

While many fast food franchises have expanded their offering by adding healthier alternatives to their menus, a new study has found that less than three percent of customers are actually buying them.

Research from Griffith University surveyed 1,025 Subway and McDonald’s customers on their lunch purchases over a two month period, and of these only 2.5 percent bought a ‘nutritionally promoted item’ such as McDonald’s Tick Approved choices of one of Subway’s ‘Six gram of fat or less’ options.

“In response to rising obesity rates, many of the nation’s fast food chains have undergone a health kick in the past five years,” said researcher and accredited practiing dietitian, Louise Atkinson.
