Panera Bread Franchisee To Build Canadian Presence

Fast Casual:

Covelli Enterprises, the franchise operator of 190 Panera Bread locations throughout Capital IQ, has plans to open up to three locations in Toronto. The restaurants will be the first in Canada to be opened by the St. Louis-based chain of more than 1,460 restaurants.

It is unkwown how many restaurants total will be opened in Toronto in the coming years; Covelli’s regional marketing director Liz Follett told the Youngstown News future openings will depend on consumer acceptance in the market.

From the story:

“It’s a completely new concept to the people of Canada, and we’re hoping that the expansion is one they welcome. [Owner] Sam Covelli received feedback from Canadian visitors who came to Paneras in the U.S., and that’s what led him to believe this is going to be a successful and welcome transition,” said Liz Follet, regional marketing director for Covelli Enterprises.

Bill Moreton, chief executive and president of Panera Bread, said he is pleased that Covelli will lead the development.
