In July 2011, the Dayton Daily News reported that used auto dealer J.D. Byrider planned to open its first store in Dayton in the following month. The dealership opened in the space formerly occupied by Luxury Cars of Dayton.

Dayton, the birthplace of Orville Wright, is home to the National Museum of the United States Air Force. It is the sixth-largest city in Ohio, with a population of more than 140,000 people.

J.D. Byrider franchisee Chris Hadley paid $1.4 million for the abandoned auto dealership at 1575 Miamisburg-Centerville Road, where he said he planned to unveil a 2,100-square-foot showroom on August 1, 2011, if renovations were completed on time.

The dealership initially employed 14 people, but Hadley said at the time that he expected that number would likely double as business picked up.

“We’ll definitely build up that number over time,” he said.

The location now maintains a rotating inventory of about 50 cars in the $8,000-$12,000 price range. Additionally, the dealership provides in-house financing for auto buyers with less-than-stellar credit, Hadley said.

Carmel, Ind.-based J.D. Byrider already had 24 auto dealerships in Ohio at the time. However, they had previously overlooked the Dayton market.

Have You Considered Buying into an Auto Dealer Franchise?

A key factor in the Dayton auto dealer’s success is the fact that they provide on-the-spot financing for customers who need it.

Friendly salespeople will steer customers to a car that suits their needs. Then an understanding finance team will help them work out the details to obtain financing right then and there that works in their budget.
