Sydneysider Merrill Pereyra spent 23 years inside the ‘golden arches’.

Pereyra, now 48, was a McDonald’s senior executive in Australia, responsible for expanding the firm’s operations locally and internationally.

He helped build its Pacific arm, including Fiji, Tahiti and Samoa, from zero to $65 million in 10 years. The key, he says, was conducting new site feasibility studies and building rapport with joint venture partners.

From a lower-middle class Mumbai background, Pereyra was raised by his PA mother after his father died when the future high-flyer was aged just one. The environment was much more competitive than Australia and the lack of a father sharpened the pressure. Read more.
