Having spoken with Pierre Payette, the president of House of Jazz Canada Inc., I can pass on the details regarding his Montreal-based company’s intentions to see House of Jazz franchises in other cities in Canada, including Toronto and Ottawa, and indeed major centres in North America and Europe.
First, the construction of a Toronto House of Jazz is about to get underway, with an opening envisioned for as early as March 2012 if all goes well, Payette told me. The only franchise confirmed so far, the Toronto venue will be a three-storey jazzclub/restaurant that could seat more than 200 people.â€It’s going to be absolutely spectacular,†Payette says.
The Toronto House of Jazz is to be located at 251 Victoria St., across from the Canon Theatre and beside the Senator restaurant and the location of the now defunct Top O’ The Senator jazz club.
