How do you distinguish the Halifax airport from the Saskatoon airport?
In the world of airport marketing, it is called developing a sense of place.
It takes the form of large murals with popular nearby scenery at the arrivals area and local coffee shops near the departure gates.
“When a passenger steps off an airplane and enters the terminal building, we want them to get a sense they’re in Halifax,†said Peter Spurway, who has a string of titles, including vice-president of airport experience for the Halifax International Airport Authority.
One day he was “blathering on†about this concept to his wife, Nancy, when she had a light bulb moment.
“She said the airport needed a Chickenburger,†Spurway recounted, referring to the iconic 1950s-inspired Bedford diner that first opened its doors in 1940. Read more.
