Subway Restaurants Committed To Proper Treatment Of Animals

Subway restaurant chain is being lauded by two of the largest animal welfare organizations for its leadership in demanding humane conditions for farm animals. Subway, which is based here, has 37,434 stores in 100 countries.

It recently announced the elimination of gestation crates for its pork sows. Subway also set a goal of using only free-range eggs, and in the United Kingdom the company has eliminated crate-style housing for sows.

Subway officials said the company is committed to being aware of the environment and to treating animals humanely.

Subway added an animal welfare section to its website.
