US Restaurants Inc., a franchisee of Burger King Corporation, in cooperation with the Plymouth Township Police Department, is having an all day fundraiser this Friday, Sept. 28 at their Plymouth Township Burger King location on 409 W. Ridge Pike, Conshohocken.

Rita Greene, general manager of the restaurant, reached out to the department after hearing of Officer Fox’s tragic death.

“We felt we had to do something”, said Greene. “And this was the best way we thought that could help the family.”

7-Eleven Franchisee Coalition Takes Stock

After wrapping up its 37th annual convention and trade show, the National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees (NCASEF) outlined its recent successes and future challenges.

In 2012, NCASEF joined in supporting the class-action lawsuit by NACS and other groups against the Federal Reserve for ignoring the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform & Consumer Protection Act (HR 4173), which restrains the interchange fees banks are allowed to charge retailers.

The NACS board in mid-July rejected a settlement proposed by large banks and credit-card companies, because transparency on interchange fees would not have been achieved. The coalition supports NACS’ efforts, and it “like[s] retailers’ chances in this lawsuit.” More.

Oklahoma City Alta Mere Franchisee Is Recognized With Award

Burger Chain’s Parsippany Sneak Peek Is A Smash

The 11th New Jersey Smashburger franchise officially opens in the Troy Hills Shopping Center in Parsippany Thursday, but residents had an opportunity Monday afternoon and evening for an early taste of what the chain restaurant has to offer.

There was excitement in the dining room as patrons who had received e-mailed invitations to attend lined up to try out Smashburger’s burgers, chicken sandwiches and fries.

Server Mike Calderone said he was feeling the excitement too.

“I love this,” he exclaimed. “The spirit is great!”

He said the spirit carries over to his feelings for working for Smashburger.

Unique Financing Helps Saladworks Sprout Up

A husband-and-wife franchisee team, Mark and Ebony Satterfield of East Stroudsburg, are preparing to open the Pocono area’s first Saladworks restaurant this year, largely thanks to a $340,000 start-up Small Business Association loan, but they took a very uncommnon route to this area.

The couple harnessed the effort of BoeFly, an online marketplace that works like a Match.com for small business lending by connecting borrowers with more than 2,200 lenders nationwide, based on compatibility between the borrowers and lenders. It curently has 6,000 borrowers enlisted.

“We found BoeFly incredibly easy to use, and we were blown away at how many serious lenders we met,” said Mark Satterfield as he and his wife are members of JTS Enterprises LLC. Read more.
