A Manly Franchise

Rapid City Journal:

The latest addition to Rapid City’s direct-sales industry has nothing to do with “parties” – Tupperware, candle, purse or otherwise.

Tad Darling of Box Elder has started a home-based business in “meatings,” as in meat – brats and steaks, as well as all the equipment needed to grill it and wash it down with a cold beer.

“It’s the real deal,” Darling said. “It’s just like all the home-based businesses out there for women, except it’s for guys.”

Whether it’s the economy or just a desire to make more money, many people in the area have started party businesses on the side or as a replacement for a full-time job.

Marge Heard of Rapid City, a Mary Kay saleswoman for 24 years, has noticed an increase in the number of direct-sales businesses in the last year.

“With the economy being what it is, people are looking for an opportunity to make extra money,” Heard said.

Darling started the business as a way to support his wife and five children after he gave up driving a truck.

“I just couldn’t drive truck anymore,” he said. He heard about ManCave on Craigslist and thought, “Is this thing for real or is it a scam?”

He checked it out, decided it was for real and made the move, as a way to bring in extra income on top of getting licensed to drive a school bus. He bought a starter kit, booked a few “meatings” and was on his way.

“The only requirement is to sell $100 worth a month,” he said. “As far as how much you can make, it’s all on how ambitious you are.”

Reading this and other entries remind me of the days of the MLM promises of overnight success and support from up line, who never quite seem to fit the bill. But sure could talk a blue streak! Oh many would argue, its not the up line its your attitude, your drive to succeed, hmmmm, no my experience tells me its my pocket book, and when I can no longer afford those seminars and raw, raw conventions they’ll wave from Florida, The Bahamas, Cancun, or wherever else they can rub dirt in your face to say see sucker see how fast we used you and put you on the back burner, so fast you still have burn marks on your butt from the many, many promises from up line that never quite seemed to materialize accept of course for those who bought so much stock, they couldn’t afford to fail because they would lose their shirt, house etc. if they didn’t sell it. Well times we are a changing folks and now all those get rich quick schemes are just that. There are more jerks out there making money selling a systems to unsuspecting individuals than ever before. People are desperate to succeed and too just plain feed the family without losing there shirt again to another quack with an un-proven system that makes the fat cat rich off of the sales of the dud systems. WAKE UP FOLKS, it takes dedication, research, commitment, stamina, unprecedented drive to succeed. There is no-one out there who can tell you that their system is the end to all ends. If that were the case they wouldn’t need to entice you to get involved they would just live out the banker role. Its time the FEDS stood up…..oh wait they are the biggest crooks yet, spending our grandchildren’s four generations out income. So please if you really want to make it rich, invent a system to sell. Doesn’t matter if it works just sell it, isn’t that what Bernie Maddoff did?.. He was very slick…you couldn’t give him your money, you had to beg and be referred and then it became a huge favor to take your money….what a scam artist and who was taken in, everyone from the Feds down….Happy Free enterprise!
