Be A Tomboy

Ottawa Citizen:

Cheryl Bush isn’t afraid to admit that tools excite her. And she isn’t afraid to tell other women why.

A Marine Systems Engineering Officer in the Canadian Navy, Bush has had 25 years experience working on diesel engine ships wielding tools designed, she says, for a man’s grip and size.

“I’ve been there. I’ve worked with tools weighted for men who are 200 lbs and I know what that will do to a woman,” explains Cheryl. “We don’t have the upper body strength to use heavy tools as long as a man can. We will injure ourselves.”

But she has a not-so-guarded secret that she has been sharing with do-it-herselfers throughout the Ottawa Valley since early 2008 – ergonomically designed Tomboy Tools.

Forget that they are prettified in pink or beautiful in blue, this is a unique line of private labelled hand tools sized specifically for women.

“They are lighter and made for a woman’s grip,” says Cheryl. “They also have some interesting features that are the envy of other tool manufacturers.”
