11 alive:

The Grinch has come early to Atlanta this Christmas.

Scentsy Inc. recently donated $1.25 million in plush toys to be distributed to Boys & Girls Clubs across the country.

Atlanta-based Boys & Girls Clubs of America was to get 50,000 “Scentsy Buddies,” a cuddly companion for children ages three and up. Each features a zippered pocket that holds a fragrant Scent Pak, and children can register their Buddy, play games, and print an adoption certificate at scentsybuddy.com.

But Meridian, Idaho-based Scentsy said Thursday more than 8,000 Scentsy Buddies were stolen in the Atlanta area and in some cases resold through discount stores. Several Atlanta-based Scentsy consultants alerted the company this week found Scentsy Buddies, which normally sell for $25, were selling at area discount stores for $6.99. Working with Atlanta-area police, Scentsy determined a shipment of donated toys was stolen and the merchandise illegally sold.

About half of the stolen toys have been recovered. An investigation is underway.
