Port City Java Closing Its Doors

Greenville Online.com:

The Port City Java coffee shop chain is no longer open for business in Greenville.

The chain’s last three local locations — on Main Street, Mills Avenue and Augusta Road — have closed following the local franchisee’s filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, according to the chain’s corporate office and court documents.

The closings were a “total surprise” to Port City Java headquarters in Wilmington, N.C., said Frank Montano, the chain’s director of franchising.

Montano said he learned of the Greenville closings after a customer sent an email asking why the Main Street store had closed.

“We had no clue they were shutting down until yesterday morning,” Montano said Thursday.
