Andrew Goldsworthy and his wife Sharon have been named 2008 Pack & Send Franchisee of the Year.
Owning the only Pack & Send store in Tasmania, the couple competed against the 92 other Pack & Send franchisees nationally to win the award.
Since opening Pack & Send Hobart five years ago, the couple has specialised in the transportation of fragile, large, awkward and valuable goods in addition to regular postal service.
Andrew and Sharon had to acquire many essential franchising skills since venturing into the business world.
“Since founding Pack & Send Hobart, we’ve had to learn just about every aspect of running a store, from marketing, capital management, store location selection and customer relationship management.
They’re all extremely different aspects of a business but they certainly all affect each other,†said Goldsworthy.
Since establishing in 2003, they’ve continued to grow at a rapid rate.
The store’s sales in the 2006 / 2007 year increased by 53%, while sales growth in 2007 / 2008 was an impressive 28%. The first quarter sales growth in 2008 / 2009 is at 25%.
Choosing a franchise business was ideal for Andrew as he didn’t have any prior experience in business, it was also a way of reducing the potential risk of failure from a start-up business.
