GHCL Eyes Italian Brand As UK Unit Rosebys Struggles

Economic Times:

The Home retail arm of Gujarat Heavy Industrial Chemicals (GHCL) is eyeing an Italian home furnishing brand, even as it is striving to keep the UK retail operations of Rosebys afloat.

The company, that had earlier acquired Rosebys (UK) and Dan River (US), is likely to sign up an Italian home textile brand in the next three to five months, a company official said.

Meanwhile, Rosebys UK is facing tough times due to negative market conditions. The company is now planning to revive a chunk of its 320-odd stores through the franchisee model.

“We are in the midst of restructuring the UK business and will go from being a own-store company to a franchisee-driven company. We have already identified 74 franchisees, who will take up 2-3 store clusters each. We are taking our Indian model of expansion to the UK and are eyeing expansion in Poland, Romania and Vietnam. We are also looking at South Africa as a potential market,” said Rosebys Interiors India CEO Aloke Banerjee.
