Olivia Omega Logan avoided calculating holiday season sales from her online baby clothes and gift store for the same reason a lot of people don’t look at their 401(k) accounts – the numbers wouldn’t be good.
But the former marketing professional turned “mompreneur” recently opened the spreadsheets for her Aurora-based business, babycandystore.com., and quantified the disappointing results she knew she’d find.
“It’s pretty sad,” Logan said.
Babycandystore.com’s online sales for November and December dipped nearly 64 percent, dropping from $5,800 in 2007 to $2,100 in 2008, she said.
Logan’s one-woman operation is emblematic of an unprecedented nationwide contraction in online commerce.
