See Jane Fly Eases The Pain Of Flying For Women

The flying experience is not something that can be considered one-size-fits-all. Each person as their own needs.

See Jane Fly realizes that women have separate needs from men and aspires to help them meet their needs with a customizable, free travel guide. Any Jane that wants to fly in comfort is likely to find the information she needs at See Jane Fly

Tell us a little about See Jane Fly.

See Jane Fly is a brand new, first-of-its-kind travel website for today’s multi-tasking woman looking to simplify and enhance her travel experience. The ultimate travel planning resources, See Jane Fly features free travel guides designed to match specific trip type and individual travel preferences, as well as a fun SJF Everywhere e-mail newsletter featuring the latest travel news, time-saving tips and resources, and trip-enhancing exclusives, all delivered in a bite-sized, easy-to-use format that ensures glam travel from start to finish.

What inspired you to launch the website?

As a marketing and communications executive with companies including Lucasfilm, Yahoo!, Time Warner, Electronic Arts, Paramount Studios, and Logitech, I spent years crisscrossing the country, sharing travel-planning woes and “what went wrong“ stories with fellow female co-workers and friends along the way. I soon realized that the travel industry’s ‘more is better’ and ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach wasn’t cutting it for today’s busy women, and my travel travails were shared by an infinite number of female travelers. After returning home from another very long trip looking like someone beat me down with my suitcase, I decided it was time to create a solution for my fellow Janes. Over the course of a year, I found an amazing team and together we put our hard-earned travel know-how and work experience to good use, and am proud to say that See Jane Fly has officially launched, as of May 9!

It is our hope that we can finally solve every Jane’s biggest travel complaint: too many options, too little time. By providing female travelers convenience to exactly what they need, when they need it. It’s like having your very own local, hip concierge.

What is a travel guide?

Today’s Janes are often frustrated with standardized guidebooks, unused travel articles, and aggregated websites that provide excessive and irrelevant information, See Jane Fly sets itself apart from both online and print travel resources by offering customizable guides filled with expert recommendations that are original (never aggregated) and collected by our in-the-know SJF City Insiders, who know exactly what Janes want. Our experts personally test every place that appears in the personalized guide to make sure it’s a perfect fit. Guides are free, always up-to-date, and instantly delivered online in a printable, pocket-ready format. In addition, SJF Guides always include handy, at-your-fingertips information on essential resources including nearby tech support, malls/shopping, drugstores, transport, as well as weather guides and city-specific style tips. With listings changing based upon trip type, the Tots in Tow guide might include babysitting services, while the Girlfriends Getaway guide may feature “plenty of men” cocktail hotspots and top mani-pedi parlors.

How does someone sign up for their own free guide?

Janes can visit the See Jane Fly website (www.seejanefly.com) and enter a specific trip type, with options that include Biz Meeting, Romantic Escape, Girls Getaway and Tots In Tow, as well as personal preferences for budget, preferred activities and interests. The SJF Guide is instantly delivered in a printable, pocket-ready format.

What information/topics do you cover in your newsletter?

A free, opt-in feature of the site, SJF’s twice-weekly SJF Everywhere e-mail newsletter delivers the latest travel news from across the country, including on-the-go beauty, health, gadgets and more. Offering updates on everything from expert in-flight fitness tips and cutting-edge airport amenities in cities across the nation, to exclusive product deals and discounts, the SJF Everywhere newsletter provides succinct, useful information and new ways to improve and enhance the travel experience.

Now that you have flying in the female perspective covered, can we possibly expect to see a male version in the future?

We have no intention of not paying attention to the Jacks out there, so stay tuned!

What separates your website from others like it?

Current online travel resources provide excessive information that is difficult to access, sift through, and print. Even those websites offering “tailored” guides simply aggregate information from all over the web, resulting in excessive, broad destination information for a generic travel audience. Sometimes there is also a cost or fee for generation of these guides.

Additionally, with the very popular addition of user-review sites many female travelers are left feeling more confused and unsure of their decisions due to contradicting reviews and excessive information that is irrelevant to them. While it is important to have user-review sites for cross-referencing and checking, it can also take a lot of time out of one’s day. What today’s woman needs is a resource she can count on. A healthy combination of expert recommendation and in-the-know insider reviews that saves them from hit-or-missing their way through the planning process, which is exactly what See Jane Fly offers.

See Jane Fly sets itself apart from both online and print travel resources by offering free, customizable guides filled with unbiased, expert recommendations that are original (never aggregated) and collected by our in-the-know SJF City Insiders, who know exactly what Janes want. Our experts personally test every place that appears in the personalized guide to make sure it’s a perfect fit. SJF’s conveniently condensed travel guides are quickly and easily accessible, easy to print and use, comprehensive, tailored to match each Jane’s specific travel purpose, budget, and specific interests. You get only the information you want, none that you don’t.

How long did it take for you to build See Jane Fly from idea to launch?

The idea came to me during a flight home from London in late 2007 and See Jane Fly was launched on May 9, 2009! It was important for me to build a solid team, find the right authors and insiders, and LISTEN to what real-life Janes wanted before we did anything. This ended up taking time and then it was a matter of finding the right tech to support our vision and get the travel industry to support what we’re up to.

Do you have a couple travel tips that you’d be willing to share with our readers?

  • Trying to stay healthy on the road? Plan ahead! See Jane Fly’s customized City Guides help keep you on track. Our Expert Janes and City insiders research and personally try out the best gyms, yoga studios and healthy restaurants in each featured city, so that you have handy, up-to-date recommendations at your fingertips. Pack your running shoes on top, so you have no excuse.
  • Get yourself a pair of TravelSox, they combat swelling and discomfort in your feet and legs. Go for the SoftPrim version that have extra padded soles. We’re so hooked on them that some of us even wear them around the office when we’re having a “puffy day.”
  • Bring an empty Klean Kanteen, or any other water container, with you through airport security, and then fill up on the other side. Eco-friendly and pocket-friendly travel at its best!
