Tell us a little about ShirtsMyWay.

ShirtsMyWay lets shoppers design their own dress shirts in detail using an interactive model. The shirts can also be made to measure with no additional charge, this ensures a great fit.

ShirtsMyWay has been featured a lot in the media recently including sites like Financial Times, ZDNET, CNET, NBC, GQ, Glamour Magazine, and a whole lot more.

ShirtsMyWay was founded by Michael Yang and Peter Crawfurd.

We do actually offer free shipping to many countries throughout the world.
What inspired you and your partner to launch your business?

Michael Yang my partner and I had been planning to start a business quite a few years before we actually did. We have both been traveling a lot around the world getting dress shirts on the way. We got the idea to take tailored dress shirts to a higher level by creating a website that truly lets you design the shirt in detail.

How many design possibilities would you say are available? How many colors/materials are there to choose from?

There are far more than 7 trillion different design possibilities. You can design anything from buttonholes, buttons, monograms, to the placement of the fabric on the shirt.

Do you have any plans to expand past mens shirts into other areas of apparel or even create a ‘design your own’ system for women?

Our system allows for a lot of diversification opportunities. Exactly in which direction we’ll be moving we are not sure of yet. It could be anything from bicycles to jeans.

What are some of your more immediate goals for ShirtsMyWay? What are your long term goals?

We have big plans for ShirtsMyWay that involve multiplying our current size in revenue and employees.

What are some of the lessons you and Michael have learned from your business?

That it truly takes lots and lots of work and that your success will highly depend on your mental state.

Have you always had an interest in business?

We have both been interested in business for a long time and have both studied at Copenhagen Business School in Denmark several years ago. In fact, we agreed to starting a company many years ago.

What are some of the things that you feel helps make your partnership work? What are some of the hardest parts about running a business with a partner?

Compromise. While there are many advantages of running a business with a partner there are also disadvantages. Emotional states are important are contagious especially between partners. If one is down it may affect the others state of mind as well.

Do you have any tips that you’d like to share with anyone that might be looking to create a partnership in business?

Be sure that you have the same goals and ambitions and that both are prepared to work hard and make sacrifices.

What advice do you have for anyone that might be considering their own business in the apparel industry?

Although it may not seem it, apparel is a very complicated product type. As with many things the attitude of the producer is often correlated with the quality level you will receive. Be sure to have good relationship with a steady and quality supplier.
