Great Clips’ Barton Always Has A Great Hair Day

According to Ray Barton, there’s no such thing as a bad hair day. And, thanks to his growing empire of more than 2,700 salons throughout the United States and Canada, the 30,000 stylists employed by Great Clips are making sure their customers never have a bad hair day either.

Since founding Great Clips in 1982, the company has become the largest single-brand salon in North America. But success didn’t come over night. When Barton became CEO in 1983, the one-year-old company had four locations and annual sales of less than $1 million. Plus, two other hair care franchises – Fantastic Sams and SuperCuts – were already established names in the market.

But Barton thought there was room in the industry for at least one more hair care brand and believed in the power of franchising.
