Ann’s Italian Restaurant Pizza

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

If I hadn’t already ordered pizza, my mind would be made up by the enticing smells that greet me outside Ann’s Italian Restaurant.

Since 1969, the busy restaurant, tucked in a former home just off Highway 100, has been serving Italian specialties in Hales Corners. Ann’s pizza is beloved for its slightly sweet sauce and perfect crust – not too thick or thin, just a bit chewy.

I love the Tuscan Chicken pizza with its garlic butter sauce, but my kids are more traditional. We order the Special: tomato sauce, cheese, sausage, onions and fresh mushrooms, not canned. They’ll also make pizzas with any of their sauces, including a white sauce, if requested.

From the beginning, homemade lasagna has been a favorite. Ann’s Penne, with a creamy vodka, basil and tomato sauce, is a more recent creation. Ravioli is homemade, and for me it’s a tough choice between lobster and Portobello mushroom.

They don’t deliver, but it’s worth the drive. Whether take-out or dining in, eating here does require either patience or planning.
