Beating Recession Blues

The sluggish economy has proved to be no match for the caffeine-charged success achieved by a profitable café.

When Graham and Anne-Marie Franks were announced as the winners of the food and beverage category of the New Zealand Franchise Awards, they and their team were “stoked”.

“It really is a people game and we are a close team,” says Mr Franks. “We didn’t have a bad year at all but the award was the icing on the cake.”

He and his wife Anne-Marie, who live in Botany, launched the Coffee Club at Sylvia Park when the shopping centre opened back in 2007.

Although they had experience in the hospitality industry, the franchise was their first foray into business ownership.
