Out Of The Boutique & Into The Livingroom

The Orange County Register:

Nicole Fields is shutting the doors of her San Clemente shop heralded by boutique lovers for its affordable glamour, but she’s not giving up on her fashion talents just yet.

Fields 4 Dreams, a women’s clothing boutique at 308 N. Avenida de la Estrella, has been open about a year and a half but wasn’t able to outgrow its infancy amid the rough economy. It will close at the end of the month.

“It’s just really tough when you’re a single mom with two kids just trying to make it,” Fields said. “I’m going to keep doing something in fashion in the future. I’m just trying to figure out what that is that captures all the talents I have.”

Fields said she plans to continue selling her finds online and turn her brick-and-mortar foundation into a launch pad for a travel boutique. Rather than having a storefront, she plans to host Tupperware-type parties at people’s homes.

Fields was known for her “Girls Night Out” events that featured wine, snacks and fashion advice, but now she wants to spin those into “Girls Night In” parties. She plans to use the 2,000 customers she has signed up on her e-mail list to get the project going. Women who host fashion parties at their homes will get a few free picks from Fields’ inventory.

“It’s my way of sort of becoming the Rachel Zoe of San Clemente,” Fields said, referring to the style icon and reality TV star.
