Local MugSHOTS

We have a new advertiser in the sidebar. The Local MugSHOTS business opportunity is a local niche periodical that every other week publishes a magazine of 200 current mugshots of locally wanted fugitives, recently arrested, and missing children. I asked the owner, Max Cannon, how he got into the business:

I started this business in 2001 when I was publishing another paper called Profiles. It was a freebie I called a “waiting room” publication that I placed in places where folks had to wait… doctor’s offices, restaurants, car repair places, etc. It was a single legal size front and back with jokes, puzzles, strange but true, riddles and totally supported by ad revenue. I started including a few mugshots of local wanted fugitives and it evolved over the years to what it is now.

And what is it now?

It’s now a 12 page tabloid with each issue containing over 200 current mugshots of wanted fugitives, recently arrested, soon to be released from jail, on parole, registered sex offenders, criminal rewards, etc. and currently being distributed in 15 cities with plans to add 25 more in 2010. The “niche” for our tabloid is the local content as folks like to see who in their community may be in our publication — thus the name “Local MugSHOTS”.

Is it a free publication like your first paper?

It is not a freebie as it sells to the public for $1.00 and is distributed primarily thru convenience stores. It is published every 2 weeks.

Does a local publisher have to do all of desktop publishing and page layout of the issues?

No. We do all the content, graphics, printing here at our headquarters and ship completed issues to our various distributors who then place them in the convenience stores.

What kind of person would be perfect to get started in this business?

We are seeking Distributor/Publishers throughout the United States who are interested in owning their own business and who also have an interest in assisting with the apprehension of local fugitives, working closely with local law enforcement and assisting in the recovery of Missing Children. This business can be started part-time while keeping your present job and easily replace your current income within a few short months or sooner.
