‘Wedding Can Couple’ Hit Goal

Andrea Parrish and Peter Geyer — aka the “Wedding Can Couple” — say they’ve reached their goal of recycling 400,000 aluminum cans to pay for their July 31 nuptials.

Parrish told Green House that she figured recycling cans would be an eco-friendly way to fund their $3,800 DIY wedding. She set up a website and word spread quickly.

The couple say it took 197 days to reach their goal, collecting on average one can about every 40 seconds. Alcoa Aluminum helped by donating 150,000 cans.

“The most exciting thing about the project is how many people have borrowed the idea,” Geyer says. “We have other engaged couples recycling for their weddings and honeymoons — even a woman collecting cans to pay for her liver transplant.”
