Although Kat Woodard grew up in a home filled with artists, it wasn’t until she was older that she found her own niche reports Idaho State Journal.
Woodard, 56, said it began at a Lia Sophia jewelry event about a year and a half ago. She was drawn to a particular necklace, but did not care for the earrings. So she purchased the necklace and a matching bracelet.
Taking the bracelet, she fashioned earrings she thought better suited for the necklace. From there it became an artistic passion.
“It’s my way of expressing myself,” Woodard said.
Kat Nip Designs is the name of her operation, making handcrafted one-of-a-kind jewelry – necklaces, earrings, bracelets and even men’s necklaces.
She admitted that everyone else in her family is artistic, but she did not show the talent for drawing or painting. Her other artistic outlet was working with stained glass for a period of about eight years.
Her favorite material to work with is vintage jewelry she then re-purposes into modern artwork. She likes to call it wearable and affordable art.
