Layfayette, IN is celebrating entrepreneurship among kids next year by dedicating May 1st, 2011 to them reports jconline.com.
Launched four years ago in Houston, the program encourages youngsters from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 to learn about running a business while giving back to the community by operating a lemonade stand and donating a portion of the proceeds to charity.
“Each year we continue to create and bring new tools. The goal this year is 28 cities and 100,000 kids learning about entrepreneurship,” said Julie Eberly, executive director of Prepared 4 Life, a nonprofit organization in Houston that was founded by Richmond native Michael Holthouse.
Eberly was in Lafayette Thursday to explain the program to business and government officials, a handful of students and potential sponsors.
“For kids, this is completely free. We work with community leaders,” she said. “What do you want this to be? It takes an entire community.”
