Even the charities are hip to social networking these days.

AppScout has a story about how the Salvation Army in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is using Twitter to get toys for needy children. It’s encouraging people to use the hashtag #Tweet4toys in their tweets, and when they do their profile photo will appear on the Tweet4toys.org Web site. A live counter will show how many times the hashtag has been tweeted.

The idea is for local businesses, families, and individuals to promote the toy drive and use the hashtag. It’s a way to make spreading the message and growing awareness a little more fun. Those not in Tulsa who want to support the toy drive can text “Joy Toy” to 85944 to donate $10.
