The Joy Of Being Top Mompreneur

Catharine Crerar-Rhodes couldn’t be happier. After all, she is a 2010 Top Mompreneur finalist by MOMpreneur Magazine. She is one of just 50 mom business owners located in Canada receiving this honor.

According to StoneyCreetNews.com, Catharine is a mom of four and the owner of PEM Events, an event booking and design company. They handle issues from scripting, staging, and staffing to set up and tear down.

“It allows me to spend more time with my children. I can book venues and vendors from home and bring my children to work on the day of an event,” she said. “Also, people are never happier than when a milestone in their lives is being reached, whether it is a birthday, anniversary or wedding. I love seeing that glow in people’s eyes when they see the beautiful space and time that we have put together for them.” The best part, though, is helping others in the community, added Crerar-Rhodes.

“From the day I planned my first murder mystery costume party, I knew I was hooked on creating interactive, family-friendly events that everyone can enjoy,” she said. “There’s nothing else I’d rather be doing.” As for what advice Crerar-Rhodes would offer would-be mompreneurs? “Do your homework and find out if the industry you want to be in is needed in your area,” she said. “Ask questions. Find a mentor.

Most importantly, let your children help,” she added. “Even if all they are doing is packing up merchandise into boxes or providing sticky-fingered quality control, kids love to be involved and help their parents.”
