Social media sites allow the public to gather information and make buying decisions about products or services. Because customers spend so much time online, businesses that distribute their message via social media have a greater opportunity to reach and attract new customers and also keep long-term customers.

According to Leo Burnett, a Chicago-based advertising agency, 96 percent of Americans use social media, while 42 percent have woven social media into their shopping.
