As general counsel for Denver retailer Appliance Factory Outlet & Mattresses Inc. (AFO), Dennis Kaw is using his legal experience to pave the way for growth through franchising opportunities.
It was Kaw’s vision of the business value he could provide to AFO beyond his legal services that convinced CEO Chuck Ewing to hire him as the company’s first general counsel in 2010.
Only 25 percent of Kaw’s duties are legal, while the other 75 percent are dealing with business development and growth strategies, he said.
