With oldies rock playing in the background, Doug Martzke talks about the future of A&W restaurants from one of his stores in downtown Green Bay.
Months after the brand was acquired from Yum! Brands Inc. by domestic and international franchisees, he sees a new lease on life for the 93-year-old brand.
“We’re controlling our own destiny now,” said Martzke, who owns six A&W locations in Green Bay and one in Menominee, Mich. “We’re going to get back to promoting what really made A&W grow in the beginning, and that’s not just the root beer — which is different and our signature item — but the food as well.” Read on.
