Checkers Set To Reopen In Salisbury

Tasley Eastern Shore News:

Checkers is making a comeback on South Salisbury Boulevard, and this time with a new franchisee.

The largest double drive-thru restaurant chain in the country with the trademark checkerboard and chrome facade debuted on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in the spring of 2009 in front of the South Salisbury Plaza shopping center near Salisbury University. The initial franchise, owned by Clifford and Jeaunice Pulliam of Annapolis, closed after two years when the Pulliam International Trading Co. LLC liquidated assets through Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Now a new franchisee plans to make a go at the location, stocking the same burgers, fries and colas — but with hands-on involvement by the new owners, who are local, said Rick Tilghman, an adviser at Sperry Van Ness-Miller Commercial Real Estate who brokered the lease on the 14,000 square-foot restaurant.
