Want to know how to get more kids to go into business? Financial Post has an idea:
“What’s one thing we could do to help more young people start their own businesses?,†I asked a young entrepreneur last week in central Newfoundland. Jesse thought for a minute and then said, “Help teach other kids that business can be fun. You can do things you like to do, and you can make money.â€
A gifted artist as well as a business savant, Jesse started her own business this spring selling hand-painted Christmas ornaments made from used light bulbs. Decorated with snowflake motifs or depicting reindeer, penguins and elves, the ornaments sell for $6 apiece. Jesse won’t likely get rich on this product — she can only make four a day. But then again, she just turned 12.
