How to Start a Tutorial Website

How to Start a Teaching or Tutorial Website

Looking to start a website, but constantly putting it off due to the fact that you have no clue where to start or what niche you would even want to get into? This is the case for a lot of different online business entrepreneurs out there, especially if you are in the service providing industry and have been thinking about moving towards something different – like affiliate marketing per say.

One great route to take is to start up a tutorial website. And if you really want to have a great chance to succeed, you will definitely want to do a tutorial website that has videos included in the game plan (videos that can be viewed on the iPhone as well).

Why Are Tutorial Websites Such a Great Idea?

The answer to this question is very simple: There is a very high demand for tutorial websites yet there is a very low competition for them. This because that they take a lot of work and a lot of collaboration.

Why is this? Before we answer that question, let’s first ask the question: What kind of tutorials should you be making for your website?

There are all sorts of tutorial websites out there that were put up for people to learn how to use programs that pertain to some type of web development or Internet marketing process. For instance, there are tons of JavaScript and CSS tutorials out there that you can find on the web. And although there is probably still room for plenty more (especially JavaScript), a better idea for a tutorial website has to do with a program that you run on your computer – but the job doesn’t necessarily have to do with computers.

Basically, find a program that people use on the computer that doesn’t have to do with web development or Internet marketing, and you are in the money – especially if it is something that is highly difficult and people use to make a living off of. These are the types of programs that they make expensive classes for, which is another great reason why a tutorial site with this model is a great idea.

So back to the main question: Why is there such a high demand and low competition?

This is mainly because it takes extensive knowledge to be able to make a whole website based on tutorials that will satisfy the customer needs. And most of the time – the people that are intending to use these programs, aren’t intending to make tutorials on the web with them. And for the most part – they aren’t even webmasters. This is where you come in. That being said you will need a couple things to start a website like this, assuming that this will be one of your first internet ventures:

One or More Business Partners

You will need someone that is an expert in the program. This person will be the one creating all of the videos for you. People like this, can surprisingly enough, be found on Craigslist. In fact it is a great way to find these people. And since you really do not have to be in the same vicinity of the person, you can post in the bigger cities to get better results.

Depending on how much time and knowledge of creating websites you have, you may want to bring 1 or 2 more people on with you to help you work with the website. Perhaps a family member (if you convince them that the idea is a great one!).

The Right Software

When you are creating these tutorials, you want to make sure that you are making the videos in the best possible format. If you are recording them off of a computer screen, then you want to make sure that you get the right program for that (like iShowU). You also want to make sure you get the best video converter and that all your videos are able to be seen on the all the mobile phones of the world out there – especially the iPhone’s.

You will also need some file and folder sharing programs – like Dropbox – which you can share all the videos with – as long as anything else that you might like to share with your partners. An Internal collaborating system and a program that installs a local server on your computer like XAMPP (for Windows) or MAMP (for Mac Users) may also be a good idea.

Extensive Knowledge of Valuable Keyword Phrases

To obtain this you will first need a pretty good general understanding of the program itself. This is because there are usually tools, concepts, or parts of a program within the program that are highly searched for on the Internet. You need to know these terms so you can optimize your site around them, and so that you can get part of that search market. This will also be relevant when if and when you do any link building, or hire a company that provides link building services to do it for you.

Understanding the program will have a lot to do with developing the website. It is the first step to making tutorial websites. If you do that, and add some hard work – you should be well on your way to making money online!
