His invention is a simple hinge design that allows the gate to break away from the livestock handler, should a charging beast hit the gate. When closed the gate is rock solid, but as the handler opens it, the gate develops a fold in the middle, this encourages the charging beast to aim at the end where they have clear sight; that is the end furthest away from the handler.
