Explaining Social Security to Kids
Newmark’s Door: “Your tax dollars at work: the government tries to explain Social Security to little kids.” I think we could do better than that — and for free!
Here’s my version: Social security is like food that the big scary green monster steals from the young people to give to the old people. The big scary green monster gives the food to the old people because they don’t have any. He’d stolen it years before to give to the then old people.

Dane, I’m not sure anyone can do a better job.
When I was a financial planner, we were FORBIDDEN by our firm from even discussing the possibility of Social Security failure.
That makes people need to save even more money…
Fear = paralysis
Paralysis = no sales
Truth = potential gov’t backlash
Backlash = better to keep people in the dark.
I got out because the industry wasn’t serving the middle class and found helping people start create new income streams was what most people needed!
And that’s the way it is in financial planning land…
