Cheap: Postage Meter
Yesterday we talked about how the USPS is hurting from the decrease in mail volume. Companies that sell add-on services for the postal system must be hurting too.
Pitney Bowes is offering their Personal Post postage meter for only $15 per month. This is at least half what it used to rent for last year (you can’t buy a meter). What makes the deal even sweeter is that they’ll throw in $7.50 of free postage each month for two years — so if you mail at least 17 first class letters per month, the meter costs you less than two cups of Starbucks coffee that’d you probably buy if you had to drive to the Post Office to buy stamps.

I would imagine that postal supplies are hurting as well as the post office. At my last out of the house job before i started working at home, we had a pitney bowes postage meter. We spent five hundred every two months in postage alone, then you add on the costs of renting the machine, plus the cost of someone coming out every time the cost of stamps goes up, then the costs of up keep on it such as the ink and ribbon’s…it’s ridiculous by time your done with it all.

Wow, they really reduced their costs since I last had their meter. Something to keep in mind with this is that they make you buy your ink through them, and a refill can cost $50 and evaporate more quickly than a toner cartridge in your printer. I decided to look for a service that would let me print postage from my printer, and ended up with Stamps.com. They have a good digital scale, and I can get shipping discounts for my products. Good deal.
