Advertising That’s Cheap And Effective
A new trend in advertising can be seen on sidewalks across the Bay area.
People stand for hours holding signs, trying to encourage drivers to stop for a minute and spend some of their cash.
But does it really work?
Yes, say several business owners.
Lee Pattison manages flaggers who advertise for Quizno’s. He said the positions are hard to come by, as he gets about 10 calls a day from people asking for work.
“It’s just not a sticker or a banner,” Pattison said “It puts a human touch on it, a little emotion and it seems to be working well, driving a lot of people through our door.”

Our local car wash likes to take it a step further. The poor sign holder has been spotted wearing a variety of costumes.
I don’t know how successful it is at bringing in business, but I know it definitely leaves its mark on those driving by.

People must have serious money problems to accept a job like this.

I agree with Angela, here in Michigan there are quite a few companies that use sign holders as their advertising. And i have seen some poor sign holders wearing some very odd looking costumes and sometimes even dancing. Although i do feel bad for these poor sign holders as i’ve seen them out there in the weather (snow, rain, cold, hot, etc.) for hour’s, i only hope that their boss is paying very well for doing such a job!

I consulted for company once who used this promotional tactic, it did not show any increase in foot fall or sales. Still, maybe its time has come again

I personally couldn’t do that lol! But it is very cost effective for small business owners that brings attention, and more profits to there small business. Very cost effective form of advertising they prob pay the guy or girl 8 bucks an hour to stand there with a sign. And i guarantee there making a whole hell of a lot more than that. Hey were in a little recession you have to be innovative these days to succeed!
