Terrifying Google Wave

A new feature of Google was announced on May 29th, the Google Wave. Some people are excited for this new feature, but others however are terrified and with good reason according to Fast Company.
While Google says that one benefit is the “rich formatting”, this rich formatting means loss of punctuation, shorten sentences and signatures that contain important information such as address, phone numbers and more to name a few.
With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.”That’s what Google says. Am I the only one who writes an email, then revises it for tone and clarity? It’s creepy enough that other people know when I’m typing on Gtalk. Now they can see what I’m thinking as I try out sentences?
With this new feature comes new apps which some may find a great tool and benefit, but this just add’s to the pile of more apps and communication tools that developers all around the world are already trying to handle. How many more companies do we need with their own platforms and new apps?
What are your thoughts on Googles new Wave?

Google Wave is a paradigm shift that will affect many software sectors:
document management, project management, collaboration, email, social applications, bespoke web apps, etc..
There is a business in becoming wave services centric where you can provide hosting, robots and extensions.

rich formatting does not necessarily mean a loss of punctuation or the use of bad grammar. that’s solely at the discretion of the wave participants. all it means is that you can, in a web document, have different fonts, styles, bold, etc. in your text.
companies are always coming up with new apps and platforms. if they’re not truly innovative or provide a useful service, what good are they? if google wave can provide both, don’t knock it. ride wave and, as mr. malone says provide hosting and extensions. capitalize on it, like so many have already done with microsoft’s applications and platforms. it’s an opportunity, not a disaster.

I think it’s a great opportunity, it will also take Twitter to the next level allowing for an even greater collaboration platform where users can share more content than just 140 character messages.
