Raubin Pierce couldn’t stop smiling Friday as he looked at the refilled pothole stenciled with the phrase, “Re-Freshed by KFC.”

The radio talk show host was instrumental in steering Topeka toward the Kentucky Fried Chicken pothole-refilling campaign, and on Friday the city unveiled the first of 60 such potholes to be painted with the fast-food restaurant’s name.

“This is a fantastic day for Topeka,” said Pierce, a host on WIBW-AM Radio 580′s “On the Other Hand” program.

The station is owned by Morris Communications, which also owns The Topeka Capital-Journal.

The chicken restaurant chain chose the capital city as one of four to receive $3,000 worth of free pothole repairs. As appreciation, the city will use nonpermanent street chalk to paint the KFC message on 60 potholes. The manpower cost for each pothole repair will be about $55. Read more.
