Uppercase Living Enters Into Direct Sales

canoe.ca:

Home décor company Uppercase Living announced plans to enter the direct sales market in Canada and possibly your living room.

Uppercase Living, which operates similarly to familiar brand Tupperware, has hired its first Canadian consultants to sell its products through organized house parties.

“For years we’ve had women in Canada asking to be a part of Uppercase Living,” said President Rich Fankhauser. “And now it’s possible.”

But it’s not only women who are increasingly being drawn to direct sales in Canada.

Approximately 1.3 million Canadians generate income selling food, nutrition, cosmetics, clothing, candles, jewelry, toys and telephone products through registered companies to friends, family and acquaintances, according to the Direct Sales Association.

The industry as a whole boasted 25% growth in the last two years, from $1.57 billion to $1.96 billion, during a time when recessionary pressures were hurting jobs across the country.

Monster.ca career coach Cheryl Stein said there’s no reason people can’t do well selling catalogue products.

Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware and Epicure Selections are just a few of the brands with sales forces in the hundreds.

But, Stein cautioned, it’s important to do your homework on a company before signing up because not all direct sales companies are created equal.
