My Power’s Still Out

You may have noticed that I haven’t been posting much as normal. We had a snow storm Sunday night and we’ve been without electricity since then.
I live just outside of Yosemite National Park in California. Although we regularly get snow during the winter, and occasionally lose power for a few hours at a time, this storm knocked down 24 trees on my property, and knocked out power to tens of thousands people.
According to the local utility company, power might be restored by Thursday night at 10 PM. That’ll be 97 hours without power!
If you were without power, and stuck at home, for four and half days what would you do to stay sane?
PS, if you didn’t notice that our posting volume was less than normal, you can thank Angela who has been working extra hard this week!

Dear Angela,
thank you so much for your extra work!
I hope the power will come back to Dane’s property soon.

Go out and start cutting those trees. In Kansas we are plagues with Elm trees, when the get old, they get fragile…it is an amazing feeling to hear them crack and break, then fall. It will take forever to clean up your mess, cut them for next years firewood…you do have a generator right…….I hate cold showers, we had a well, on the grid. No power, no water….It was beautiful as is yours.
Send the kids outside, go back to bed……

Some of my best times was when the power went out during a snow storm.
Light huricanne lamps, light a fire in the fireplace, snuggle up with a good book or engage in a good conversation without any distractions. Grill dinner outdoors.

Well, Ric was in New Orleans during Katrina and there was so much to do simply to stay alive, not to mention sane. People read, listened to transistor radios, checked on each other, and believe it or not some NOLA dwellers went around building portable toilets for their neighbors. But you’re stuck indoors. Maybe music, meditation, journal writing, reading, grab your camera, cook, do the detestable house chores you never seem to be able to get to, since you’re usually ‘out and around”. Perhaps being a home bound captive will force you to reorder your priorities — if you have pets they can be a Godsend. Take care, Dane…Hope everything gets back to normal – you might even find this severe weather inspires some creative ideas for future ideas and strategies?
