Biz On Crushed Grapes

ReporterNews.com:

Brian Scalf is a firefighter. His wife, Kimberly, is a cop. Soon both will be known as winemakers.

The Winery at Willow Creek, 4353 S. Treadaway Blvd. is set to open its doors to the public mid-August, according to Brian Scalf. The location will boast an indoor tasting room and outdoor seating, and the operation is being described by its owners as Abilene’s first micro-winery. The grapes are going to be crushed and de-stemmed by a local manufacturer.

“Five years ago I didn’t even drink wine. My wife, she got me started on it,” Brian Scalf said.

The couple visited quite a few wineries and vineyards before they decided to make their own and market it under their label.

“We’re first generation winemakers unlike others who have generations after generations making it,” he said.

The Winery at Willow Creek has a Facebook page with more than 200 likes. Customers can either buy wine by the glass or bottle.
