A local teenager found a needle-like object inside the fast-food double cheeseburger she was eating.
The 14-year-old girl was eating her burger from the McDonalds at 413 Main Street in Reading on Sunday when she found the piece of a needle or syringe.
It was a hollow piece of metal, smaller than an inch.
Health officials believe that it was a piece of a veterinary needle that must have got into the food chain at the meat packing plant in Ohio.
“They may have vaccinated an animal, and its tip broke off on the animal and it was not removed, and made its way through slaughter and the grinding process,” said Larry Ramdin, of the Reading Health Department.
A statement from McDonald’s said:
“At McDonald’s, nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our employees and customers. Regarding the claim of an alleged foreign object found in a product purchased in one of my restaurants, we strongly caution anyone from jumping to conclusions without having all the facts.”
