McDonald’s Expanding Its Coffee Niche

Muncie Star Press:

If you stop by McDonald’s for a morning cup of coffee, will you stop for “creamy latte” or “frothy cappuccino?”

McDonald’s is hoping you will, and the owners of local McDonald’s restaurants — building on a half-century of customer loyalty — are investing in the growing coffee-to-go market.

“We’re rolling out McCafe specialty coffees over the next couple of months,” said Bob Terhune, whose family owns 12 McDonald’s in Delaware and Madison counties. “We’ve had great response for our premium roast coffee. We added iced coffee and now we’re ready to take it to another level with espresso-based specialty coffees.”

Local McDonald’s restaurants are gradually adding McCafe coffees and some will see remodeling as well.

“In many of our restaurants, we’re not only putting in specialty coffee but we’re also reworking some of our drive-through areas,” said Terhune.

McDonald’s is pitching its McCafe effort toward recession-minded consumers who still want some luxuries. More.
