Pair Display A Sweet Taste For Business

Jeanina Giles of Big City Cupcakes with a tray of delectable delights at the shop’s Cherry Lane shopping centre location. The company provides cupcakes for a wide variety of events and special occasions.

With the help of about seven ingredients, two local businessmen have a product many are sweetening up to.

“Yeah, I mean who can resist a cupcake? When people come up to our booth the look on their face is priceless. They instantly smile,” said Raj Singh, Penticton franchisee owner of Big City Cupcakes located in Cherry Lane shopping centre. “We heard about this business and wanted to be a part of it right away.”

And so the whirlwind began. Within two weeks of having the idea to start a franchise Singh and his long-time friend Kelly Dhaliwal, who both grew up in Penticton, were off and running.

Big City Cupcakes is a concept developed by Kelowna entrepreneurs Lisa Larue, Beverley Desmarais and Debra Kelly. The idea originated from the buzz created from the television talk show hostess Oprah Winfrey. During one of her more popular show themes, listing her favourite things, she named a bakery specializing in cupcakes only.
