Online Restaurant Orders Picks Up

NACS Online:

Customers across the country are turning to their computers or smart phones to place orders for restaurant food, the Dayton Business Journal reports. From pizza joints to casual-dining restaurants, online order has begun to really catch on with consumers.

Tristan Koehler, a Domino’s franchisee in Dayton, believes online ordering is the future. Visitors to the Domino’s website can utilize the “pizza builder” to create their pizza in several easy steps. Debuting in August 2009, online orders now grab 20 percent to 25 percent of all orders at his 19 locations.

Other pizza chains also have online ordering, such as Papa John’s and Pizza Hut. Papa John’s franchisee Mike Burke has seen firsthand how online ordering has increased his business. Across the country, approximately 25 percent of Papa John’s sales is online orders, which is predicted to jump to 50 percent soon.

“If somebody would have told me 10 years ago that 50 percent of my business would be coming from the Internet, I would have laughed them out of the room,” said Burke.
