Vision Express Targets 550 Stores Without Franchisees

mydigitalfc.com:

Eyewear specialty store Vision Express, the 50-50 JV between Reliance Retail and Netherlands’ GrandVision BV, has set itself the ambitious target of 550 stores in the next 5 years but has consciously kept franchisee operated model out of the picture as it fears that poor quality of store employees could ward away customers.

Vision Express on Thursday achieved the landmark of opening its 103rd store on the upmarket location of MG Road in Bangalore, having embarked on the retail journey in December 2008 with per store every week run-rate. The present market size of eyewear is estimated at Rs 4,000 crore but less than one-tenth is in organised retail hands.
