Advice From The Field: Franchise vs. Biz Opportunity

Times Herald-Record:

If you want to own a business and are not sure what to do or how to do it, I always suggest spending a few days reading lists.

Required reading includes classified phone book listings and Internet searches such as Top 500 franchises, 1,000 fastest-growing companies, 500 fastest-growing industries, 5,000 fastest-growing companies etc. Consult your local library, as well.

Note anything appealing
Let your mind wander as you read. Let your mind slide off to a fringe idea only loosely connected with what you see. Drift along in a daydream for a few seconds — perhaps to something totally unrelated to the original word. Make note of anything appealing, then move on to the next listed item.

There is no guarantee, but along the way a few trends may appear on your ideas-of-interest list. Maybe everything points to food, or building things, or teaching or whatever — something you know, something you like.

Consider a franchiseread on.
