Katherine, one of our founders, came up with the idea in March 2010 when she got stuck with a hotel Groupon that she couldn’t use (because her parents cancelled a trip to visit her!). She tried to sell it on Craigslist, but got no response. She told her Facebook friends about it, but no one bit. Finally, her friend posted it to a company’s internal message board, where she got some low-ball offers and finally sold it to someone out of desperation for half of what she paid for the Groupon. She knew there had to a better way, and that she couldn’t be the only one with this problem. Two months later, CoupRecoup was born.
